Finding a blog name isn’t as simple as it seems!
Our first name was “Les Lavallée autour du monde,” which is a bit too long to write, and I didn’t feel included! I’m not a Lavallée, even though I’m married to Robin. In Quebec, we can’t change our last names. (This is probably one of the most common remarks I’ve heard since we moved to the United States! “You didn’t change your last name?? Your husband must be so mad at you!”… Nope, I just can’t!!)
So, after several brainstorming sessions with words like: bye bye routine, exploration, nomads, around the world, etc., we couldn’t find anything personalized. This is our biggest project so far, and it deserves a name that represents us well, right?
Then one day, quite naturally, our blog name appeared. As simple as it is complex! Our code name for this TDM project will be LG5!
It’s simple, it’s short, but it represents several things surrounding our family.
First, our last names are Lavallée and Gagnon, so the initials L. and G. The number 5, you’ve guessed it, represents our family of 5.
So far, it all makes sense, but these letters have a particular significance for us.
Here’s our little story!
Let’s go back to the years 1993-1994. I was just 9 years old, Robin was 13. We met for the first time in a place very few people have visited: La Baie-James, located in northern Quebec.

But what were we doing in this remote place??
Our dads were colleagues working for Hydro-Québec, and families could go there a few times a year. First, our dads were assigned to the dam power station “La Grande 3,” commonly referred to as “LG3.” A few years later, their team was moved to the dam power station “La Grande 2” (LG2) a bit further west, in the village of Radisson.
This aspect of our lives, which was completely unique and different from other kids, is also what we had in common. It was at LG3 and LG2 that we became good friends, best friends, and eventually, a couple.
In 2024, we celebrated our 25th couple anniversary. The TDM is just a logical continuation of our beautiful complicity, our trust in each other that drives us to propose completely crazy projects and, above all, to achieve them together.
Thus, to pay tribute to our hardworking dads, to our meeting in this unique place that is La Baie-James, and by the beautiful coincidence that our respective last names carry the initials of the place where everything began for us, our family world tour blog will be called: Les LG5.
